Providing a wide easy to maneuver entrance stairs, adding a gathering space, hiding the trash area and saving a lemon tree were objectives that were hard to imagine could work in this 400 SF entrance patio located in a 55 and over Encinitas Community. Neighbors helping neighbors powered this project; design effort was donated and so were some plants. The slope was tuned into an elevated deck flush with the homes flooring for easy daily use. The deck presented a new usable outdoor space to gather over the fire. Owner Judith holds on to the deck railing while using the low wide stairs leading to the front door. Trash area is completely hidden, but accessible from the top level. Corten planter retains the soil around the lemon tree while larger stair platforms provide space for owners collection of potted succulents.
